A Resident's Fall Playbook for Star, Idaho: Where the Calendar Actually Lands

Summer in Star is loud and easy to plan around. The Riverhouse concerts every other Friday, the Saturday drives east to the Boardwalk, the long evenings that make the fifteen minutes to Eagle feel like nothing. Fall is quieter, and that is exactly why most people default to the same three routines they used in July. They should not. The Star calendar reshuffles in September in ways that reward staying close to home.
Here is the argument in one sentence: this fall, for the first time in a while, the shortest drive is also the most interesting one. State Street and the two-mile stretch of Highway 16 leading up to Firebird are absorbing enough new weekend anchors that the reflex to head east is doing you out of things happening in your own zip code.
The summer concert series at the Star Riverhouse, 960 S. Main Street, runs every other Friday. That leaves the off-Fridays open, and residents who lived here through last winter already know the answer: Helina Marie's Wine Bar runs karaoke at 8 PM on those alternate weeks. It is the kind of standing thing that only shows up on your radar after a full year in town.
What is new this fall is that the off-Friday now has a second option. The Cellars at River's Edge, a wine bar at 6926 Highway 44, opened this year with a speakeasy and event center attached. Owners Denise and Scott Smith also run Sol Invictus Vineyard in Star, so the pour list has a local backbone rather than a distributor's default. The room is rustic and small enough that it fills up quickly on a cold night.
Put those together and the Friday rotation gets simple:

The concert series wraps at the end of August. From September on, both slots belong to the wine bars.
If you have driven past the empty lot across from Ridley's Market on State Street this year, you have already been asked the question. Anderson Prime Steakhouse, the destination restaurant announced in January 2025 for 10206 W. State Street, was targeted at a June 2026 open. It has not opened yet. As of late July, BoiseDev reported that the project has slipped past that target, with the team confirming on Facebook in May that it had passed inspections.
Two things worth knowing. First, the building itself is substantial: a 15,000-square-foot, two-story structure with a butcher shop, cigar program, and bar, from the Anderson family that runs Anderson Reserve in Sweet. That footprint is closer to a Boise steakhouse than anything Star has had. Second, This Is Boise's summer restaurant roundup noted that signature cuts at Prime American are set to run up to $225, which puts the price ceiling above anything currently on State Street.
The practical read for residents: do not plan a birthday around it in September. Plan around it in November, watch the sign, and let the first reviews sort out whether the room lives up to the building.
The biggest fall calendar in the area is not in downtown Star at all. It is at Firebird Raceway, at 8551 Highway 16, which the official 2026 schedule has locked in through October. For a resident, the useful thing is knowing which weekends the track will fill Highway 16 with traffic and which weekends are worth planning around it.
Three anchor dates carry the season:
For newcomers who assume Firebird is a summer-only thing: the track has been on the National Register of Historic Places since well before most Star neighborhoods existed, and it has been managed by descendants of the founders, Bill and Ellanor New, since 1968. Bring ear protection if you have small kids, and a blanket for the aluminum seats, which stop being warm around 5 PM in October.
Idaho fall gets outsourced. Half of Star ends up at Lowe Family Farmstead in Kuna or Farmstead near Eagle Road because those are the corn mazes on every list. Both are worth the drive at least once. Both are also thirty minutes and a small entry fee for what is, in the end, a curated version of what is already down the road.
The in-town alternative is Jeremy's Pumpkins at 451 S. Star Road. It has been family-owned for 36 years. It is self-serve. Pumpkins, corn stalks, straw bales, Indian corn. No zipline, no corn cannon, no gate. If you have a two-year-old, this is a fifteen-minute stop instead of a three-hour production. If you have out-of-town family arriving in October and you want to give them one Idaho photograph without spending a Saturday, this is where you take them.

The Farmstead sits near I-84 and Eagle Road and runs Idaho's original corn maze, plus pig races, a jumping pillow, and a full food operation.
Twin Oaks Farms at 3250 N. Eagle Road runs Halloween Land from October 1 through 31, with the haunted trail and bonfire hours pushed into the evenings on Fridays and Saturdays.
The residents who have this figured out treat Jeremy's as the weekday drop-in and one of the bigger farms as the one Saturday of the year they commit to it.

That routine costs less gas than a single evening round-trip to the Boardwalk, and it uses businesses that will remember your face after the second visit. Which, in a town Star's size, is still the whole point of living here.
